Appointed assistant coach for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Bharat Arun is all set to make his Indian Premier League debut in the 2015 season in the red jersey.
The former India pacer will bring with him loads of experience into the side. He has coached domestic teams and the national Under-19 sides before being appointed as the bowling coach for India midway through the tour of England in 2014. He had coached the India Under-19 ICC Cricket World Cup winning side and the U19 team that made it to the quarter-finals in the 2014 ICC CWC.
Besides briefly representing India in the mid-80s Arun plied his skills successfully for Tamil Nadu in the domestic circuit. Bharat Arun firmly believes that a coach needs to first understand a player both mentally and emotionally to be able to help them technically. Coaching according to him “Is a journey where you help the bowler discover himself”. He believes that to help any player is to help them understand themselves and build their confidence. “Playing cricket is all in the mind. It is about being more aware. You need to make a bowler realise where he has gone wrong and what are the areas he needs to bowl at. It is about doing the same thing time and again,” he told bcci.tv in a recent interview.
“We have a sizzling, young bowling attack that needs a seasoned hand guiding them. And with decades of playing and coaching experience under his belt, Bharat Arun looks like the perfect man to fill in this spot,” mentioned the RCB website.
